I believe that every special needs child has the potential to grow and change and learn to become a more fully connected person.   –Andrea Bowers

Andrea Bowers is a Neuromovement® specialist who works primarily with special needs children.

She uses hands-on, touch therapy lessons that help children develop the neural connections they need to improve their movement, their thinking, their emotions and their relationships.

Andrea has helped children with such conditions as:

  • Autism spectrum disorder and Aspergers
  • Spastic, Athetoid, and Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Learning challenges
  • Stroke and brain injury
  • Brachial plexus injury
  • Torticollis (a.k.a. dystonia)
  • Scoliosis
  • Undiagnosed developmental delays
  • And genetic disorders such as Downs Syndrome, brain malformation, Lissencephaly, Arthrogyposis and Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum.
  • Traumatic birth injury
  • Hypoxic brain damage

Her work is based on the brains unlimited capacity to learn and develop. She has studied five holistic methods that teach a childs’ brain to move beyond their limitations.  – Feldenkrais and Anat Baniel Methods, and Masgutova  (MNRI) and QRI Reflex Integration (Low level Laser), and Sue Hitzman’s Melt Method connective tissue work.

Andrea was inspired to work with special needs children because her own son, Donald, has severe quadriplegic athetoid cerebral palsy. Hands-on sessions have helped him to become an independent, self-sufficient young man who now lives on his own, has graduated from college and is a professinal artist. See DonaldRyker.com.

His brain has developed fully, so that his condition has not kept him from becoming a happy, healthy, whole person .                      –Andrea Bowers

Andrea loves to help children learn to communicate and move and play. In addition to the touch therapy sessions, she teaches parents new ways to see the potential in their children and how to continue their child’s learning process between sessions. Parents learn to judge which therapies and home or school environments are benefiting their children and which are not.

She helps parents and professionals select achievable goals for school IEPs and create the steps to work toward those goals. She also advises on the use and fit of wheelchairs, walkers, special seating, and communication devices, based on each child’s needs.

Without learning to know ourselves as intimately as we possibly can, we limit our choice. Life is not very sweet without freedom of choice.  ~Moshe Feldenkrais
